Certified organic or produced without chemicals
According to Australian Organic, if a product is certified organic in Australia, “it represents all the good things you expect from a product:
- Free range
- Cruelty free
- Non GMO
- Pasture fed
- Socially responsible
- Sustainably fished
- Biodiversity friendly and
- Grown free from synthetic pesticides, herbicides, hormones and antibiotics.”
If a product is not certified organic, it has to be produced without chemicals (and meet all the following criteria) to be endorsed by Changing Habits.
Changing Habits products are certified organic or produced without chemicals.
At Changing Habits we take a precautionary approach to genetically-modified (GMO) plants. As Cyndi O’Meara says in Changing Habits Changing Lives, “If you choose not to be aware of GMO foods and the products they are in, then you become part of the biggest uncontrolled experiment of all time, because we are being exposed to these foodstuffs constantly. Nobody knows the results, nobody can tell us if there are long-term effects, and to tell you honestly, I simply will not be a part of such an experiment.”
Changing Habits products do not contain any GMO ingredients.
No artificial or natural flavours or colours
As processed food has lost much of its natural flavour after being cooked, tinned, dried and manipulated, the processed food industry depends on ‘artificial’ or ‘natural’ flavours to give the food taste. But artificial flavours are made in a chemical laboratory and even ‘natural’ flavours may be a chemical extracted from a food.
Colourings are purely cosmetic and serve no particular purpose for the preservation and taste of foods – they are another unnecessary additive.
Our products do not contain artificial flavours or colours.
No clean labelling
Clean labelling is not as wholesome as it sounds and that’s why, at Changing Habits, we won’t endorse any product that uses clean labelling.
Clean labelling is where food producers replace artificial ingredients with ones that sound natural and even ‘healthy’. For example, Rosemary Extract on food labels, while appearing benign, is actually a ‘clean-label’ substitute for the antioxidant preservative, butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) – antioxidants which have been found to be carcinogenic in animal studies.
For many years, Changing Habits have taken a strong stand against processed foods and the ‘clean labelling’ practice employed by many food brands. Cyndi O’Meara made mention of these particular antioxidants BHA and BHT in her book Changing Habits Changing Lives.
Changing Habits does not use clean labelling.
So, what’s left when you take all these nasties out of the products we eat? Real food! That’s what Changing Habits is all about. Real food provides all the nutrients we need – why add anything else?
Changing Habits products only contain real ingredients.
