Cyndi wanted to provide a product that had nothing added at all, just the dried white flesh of organically grown coconuts. Our shredded coconut is sourced from an organic, ethical, reliable and sustainable supplier.

Coconuts are referred to as the “tree of life” and are a staple in many Asian countries. There are multiple ways to consume coconuts and one of our favourites here at Changing Habits is shredded coconut, it is an essential in all of our kitchens. Used in baking and savoury meals, this versatile ingredient can add flavour and nutrition to many meals and treats.
Shredded coconut is a natural source of dietary fibre; fibre feed the good bacteria in the intestine, which is important because it keeps your microbiome well fed which is necessary for our health. Fibre consumption increases fullness and slows down the absorption of food.
Coconuts have anti-microbial, anti-fungal and anti-viral properties through the presence of lauric acid which is also present in breast milk. A natural plant source of saturated fat, which helps to provide satiety and is used by the brain and immune system.
Dried coconut promotes brain function as some of the natural chemicals contained in the meat promote the production of neurotransmitters as well as myelin. Shredded coconut is a very versatile ingredient and can be used in a varity of ways:
stir through your morning porridge
add a couple of tablespoons into your morning smoothie to thicken it up and add fibre
mix with your choice of milk, chia seeds and berries for a beautiful chia pudding
use in baking – add to cakes, muffins, pancakes, biscuits, raw treats, slices, bliss balls, trail mixes or homemade muesli
savoury options: add to curries and salads or mix with a little flour and use as a crumbing on fish or meats.

Protein – 1 cup of shredded coconut contains 5.17g of protein which is essential nutrient for the human body. Protein helps to rebuild cells and tissue and is required for growth and maintenance.

1 cup of shredded coconut contains 12.22g of dietary fibre which helps reduce the risk of constipation, encourages proper digestion and regular bowel movements.
Zinc – 1 cup of shredded coconut provides 1.69mg of zinc which is essential for a healthy immune system, wound healing and also enables you to taste, see and smell properly.
Iron – 1 cup of shredded coconut provides 2.17mg which is an essential mineral that is involved in the transport of oxygen in the blood, for having adequate energy levels and supporting immunity. Iron also helps to maintain healthy hair, skin and nails.
Manganese and Selenium – these are essential minerals which activate enzymes, including antioxidants that your cells need for protection from the damage caused by free radicals.
