Tomato Sauce made from REAL Foods

Condiments such as homemade pesto, mayonnaise and tomato sauce (ketchup) are always so handy to have on hand to liven up any meal. Why not try pasting some of this tomato sauce onto slow cooked meats such as pork to create a flavourful pulled pork, add to soups or stews to achieve a rich depth of flavour!

Yields1 ServingDifficultyBeginner
350 g organic tomato paste (preservative free)
 1 cup filtered water
A good pinch or two of Changing Habits Seaweed Salt
1 tsp Changing Habits Turmeric Powder
A good crack of Changing Habits Pepper (cayenne, white or black)
1 to 2 tsp garlic powder
 2 tbsp Apple cider vinegar
1

Mix all ingredients together into a small saucepan and bring to the boil.

2

Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer while stirring frequently until the flavours have blended. (Add more water for thinner ketchup if it has thickened too much or add less water for thicker consistency). Taste the mix and adjust if needed (ie add in more spices, salt, vinegar or pepper to your own taste).

3

When you have the consistency you like, remove from the heat and allow to cool before transferring to a glass jar.

4

Store in the fridge.

Hello just wanted to check if the ingredients measurements are correct. 12 tablespoons of sugar and 12 teaspoons of garlic powder. Thanks Neale

Hi Neale, thank you so much for clarifying with this with us. This recipe was incorrect (i’ve just updated it now), we recently changed recipe platforms and when the recipes were transferred, there were unfortunately a few errors in the ingredient measurements.

Hi, the recipe has still not adjusted and still reads 12 TBS sugar and 12 tsp garlic powder. Can you let me know what the actual measurements should be? Thansk!

This sounds so great, and easy too. How long should it last in the fridge please?

Hi Karen. This will last for a week in the fridge – it’s also suitable for freezing 🙂
