Vanilla Powder

This is another great way to use vanilla. Freeze dried products are becoming very popular for their convenience as well as nutritional content. This is a great alternative to using vanilla essence.

Yields1 ServingDifficultyBeginner
 1 Packet of Vanilla Pods
1

Place the vanilla pods still in the package in your freezer - leave for three days

2

Using a coffee grinder, nut grinder, thermomix or kitchen wizz, place the frozen vanilla pods (now taken out of the package) and put them into your machine and grind. I put them in my thermomix on speed 10 for one minute.

The smell is amazing but not only that, you now have vanilla powder to use in your recipes. You can use it in place of vanilla essence, you can make up some maleo (rapadura syrup), add the vanilla powder and you have vanilla paste.

I know that this recipe has been here for a long time, but I just Googled how to make vanilla powder & voila! Once it’s ground up, does it need to be dried out before storing in a jar, or should it be stored in the freezer?

Keeping it in the freezer makes it super fresh. You can use it straight from the freezer as well.
