Our story… why we source and supply Deglet Noor Dates

CADA (coconut, almond, date and apple) breakfast became a favourite in Cyndi’s recipe book back in 2011 and from then till now, we found it a real challenge to source a quality date to use. After extensive research, we selected an organic grower and our dates are free from oils, sulphite, Maltodextrin, flours and other hidden nasties.

History of dates

Fossils of date palms have been found as far back as 50 million years ago.  The fruit has been cultivated and used in the Middle East since 7000 BCE. Described as the ‘bread of the dessert’, they were used for breaking fasts as the nutrients are quickly absorbed by the body.  Dates are mixed with milk or yogurt to create a paste and which is commonly used during recovery from illness or injury.

Dates are highly regarded by nomadic communities as they are easily transport and the high carbohydrate content gives quick energy. Dates are very nutritious and naturally contain minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorous and sulphur.

Our beautiful organic dates are semi-soft and they are a perfect all-rounder. With a delicious, soft caramel flavour these dates can be eaten raw as a nutritious snack or used in both sweet and savoury cooking. From raw desserts, to bliss balls to chutneys or stews, dates are an essential for every kitchen.

Our dates story

Finding dates that are free from oils, sulphite, Maltodextrin, flours and other hidden nasties can be a challenge.  These ingredients are added to prolong the shelf live, prevent the dates sticking together and for appearance.

At Changing Habits, we believe in sourcing products that are in the most natural source possible. Our dates are organically grown where there are optimal growing conditions – a dry tropical sun and rich fertile soil.

Our organic dates are hand selected at peak ripeness then simply dried and hand pitted. No additives or preservatives.

The latest batch of dates are not of the same quality as before, not very nice any more. Won’t buy again.

      Hi Renate,

Thanks for getting in touch. Due to seasonal availability we had to opt for a different type of dates from our our supplier. We will be reverting to our usual variety of dates with our next batch. Sorry for any inconvenience.

I absolutely love these dates. They make my caramel taste much more like a caramel made with condensed milk (When used to make it that way) Being a flavour i grew up with, i have missed it since changing our diet. Also love how just one or two dates gives me enough sweetness to some foods.

Absolutely amazing dates!!!! I love the fact they aren’t coated in hydrogenated oils and organic. They are great soaked overnight and blended and used as a syrup over orange and poppy seed cake.
